Magic Sounds Produced by Blowing through a Log.
Traditional. Contemporary. Inconsequential.
There are different schools of didgeridoo. The most global destinction I know is the traditional and the contempory way of playing.
- Traditional Playing is coming from aboriginal tradition and is very much based on the about 300 languages spoken by the individual tribes – there are about 500 tribes today. Their langugages differ from each other and contain sounds, we do not know in european languages. For example retro-flex “ng”-sound traditional player use for breathing. One way to incorporate these sounds is learning an aboriginal language. Anther way is to try to copy the sounds. Difficult enough.
- On the other hand contemporary players do not sound alike ether. Just compare Zalem and Yoon…
In the end, I think both profit from integrating the techniques of each other.
I was always surpriced by the openess and accessebility even the (from my perspective) most professional and known artist show. Usually you find them refering to each other. A peaceful community. “Beef” you just find from time to time.
